![]() ![]() Approximately 600,000 stateless Rohingya people remain in Rakhine, of whom 130,000 have been confined to camps since 2012. Since 2017, violence in northern Rakhine state forced more than 740,000 ethnic Rohingya people to flee into Bangladesh. COVID-19 has pushed the already fragile healthcare system to the brink of collapse. Myanmar is also experiencing shortages essential goods such as medical supplies and equipment. More than 1,000 people have been killed and over 6,000 people detained following the coup. ![]() Meanwhile, humanitarian access is significantly reduced due to security and COVID-19-related restrictions. This adds to some 336,000 people driven from their homes in pre-existing conflicts. The United Nations estimates that more than 3 million people will require humanitarian assistance by the end of 2021, including those in protracted displacement in the conflict-torn states of Rakhine, Kachin and Shan.įollowing the coup, intensified armed clashes have internally displaced an estimated 250,000 new people. ![]()
